Smoke Alarm Installation and Interconnected Smoke Alarm Installation.

Smoke alarms are your first line of defence in the event of a fire.  Smoke alarms come in two main different types which are Ionization and photoelectric.
Ionization smoke alarms have an ionization chamber inside the smoke alarm unit itself.  The smoke alarm chamber consists of two plates about a centimetre apart.  One of the plates is charged positive by the battery or transformer in AC models and the other plates is negative.  Alpha particles constantly released by the americium knock electrons off of the atoms in the air, ionizing the oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the chamber. The positively-charged oxygen and nitrogen atoms are attracted to the negative plate and the electrons are attracted to the positive plate, generating a minuet, constant electrical current. Upon smoke entering the chamber, the smoke particles attach to the ions and neutralize them, so they do not reach the plate. The drop in current between the plates triggers the alarm.
Photoelectric smoke alarms have an internal chamber with a light beam.  When smoke enters the chamber it blocks the light from entering the photoelectric sensor causing an alarm to sound.  Smoke may also cause the light beam to scatter creating an inconsistent pattern on the photocell causing the smoke alarm to sound.  Photoelectric chambers can detect a smouldering fire faster than most ionization type smoke alarms.
Battery or AC
Smoke alarms are most commonly seen as battery operated units in older homes.  Battery units are also common in situations where a smoke alarm is added and AC power is not accessible.  AC units power the smoke alarm with standard AC current from the homes wiring.  AC units are common in newer homes.  Current new construction code requires smoke alarms to be AC with a battery built into the unit as a backup power source.
Current Smoke Alarms
Current smoke alarms used in new construction homes are AC and battery combination units as stated above.  They also require a dual sensing smoke alarm unit.  The most common dual sensing combination is either photoelectric and ionization or a combination ionization and carbon monoxide unit.
Carbon Monoxide Alarms
Carbon monoxide also called the invisible killer is odourless and colourless gas.  Carbon monoxide is most commonly created in the home when unburnt or improperly vented heating equipment releases the gas.  Carbon monoxide can be created from natural gas heaters, wood burners, and oil burners.  Carbon monoxide can also enter the home from the exhaust of a running vehicle or generator.
Carbon monoxide effects some people easier than others.  People such as elderly, pregnant women, infants, and people with emphysema, asthma, or heart disease can suffer the effects of carbon monoxide much quicker than a healthy person.
Smoke Alarm Installation
We can install most major brands of smoke alarms.  We highly recommended the AC with battery backup units for superior performance.

AAA-FIX-It gives you 5 tips that will reduce your Air Conditioner electricity consumption:

1. Forget any figures below 20 Degrees Celsius!

For many years we have seen people setting their Air Conditioner on 16 Degrees. Please be reminded that your Air Conditioner is not made to reach such temperatures if the outside temperatures are above 25 degrees.Secondly, if you ever reach 16 Degrees, you better go and get a nice warm and most probably expensive jacket because 16 degrees in Malaysia would make anyone sick in a couple of hours.
So once for all, remember to set up your air conditioning at the highest temperature you’d feel comfortable with. The recommended temperature should be between 23 and 25 degrees.

2. Stop the ON-OFF game!

Drop that remote and leave it there! If your Air Conditioner is properly set up, you should enjoy the room temperature for longer periods of time without having to switching it on and off every 15 minutes.Your air conditioning unit works better and more efficiently if you let it do its work for longer periods.

3. Get your fans in the game!

While your air conditioning core function is to cool down the temperature of a room, it’s main function is not to distribute the air all over the place. Modern units will have lots of new functions aiming to that goal, but it is more efficient to have a fan assist to distribute the air in your room. This is particularly true if you plan to cool down a double story house.Switch on the Air Conditioner downstairs, and turn the fans on upstairs. This will help you to mix the hot air of the ceiling with the fresh air that tends to go to the floor.

4. Maintenance is cheaper than repairs!

This is a fact, and after years and years of experience, this remains our best advice.  As much as you would maintain your car, you should take care of your air conditioning. Not only are Air Conditioners expensive to buy, but every time you have to repair them, the costs involved can be quite high, repairs take longer and are more costly than a regularly planned maintenance.Take advantage of a planned maintenance schedule and avoid the surprise of a costly repair and the risk of health issues due to a poorly maintained unit.

5. How well did you welcome your Air Conditioner in your house?

When you decided to install your AC, you most probably checked the power needed for the room right? This factor is important and most of us think of that one. With all the installations that we performed, we have seen many houses that had very poor isolation. To prevent your cooled air to go away faster than your air conditioning can produce it, make sure your wall cracks are filled and that your windows are properly sealed. We would even suggest you to always close your curtains when you leave the house, as otherwise, the sun will heat up all your walls and heat will be released long after the sun goes down.

Painting your property before renting out or selling, why is it so important?

We have helped many owners to refresh the properties they like to rent or sell. Tanking action to fix the problems of a property and doing some cosmetic work, could allow you to advertise it at a higher price and it will help to close a deal with a tenant easier.

So, why should you consider painting your property before proposing it on the market?

1. First impression makes it all.

As with most things, a good first impression is very important. Maybe potential buyers or tenants are turned off by small issues they see and it often ruins the overall appearance of the property.

2. When there is nothing but the walls, what do you look at?

If your property is empty, the walls are getting the most attention from buyers and tenants. A clean coat of paint on the walls will make an overall good impression that will help to get a positive decision. Use warm lighting when you propose a visit.

3. Better Pictures = Better Listing

Today, more than 90% of your potential tenants and buyers will conduct some online research. The common rule is that an image is worth a thousand words!A nicely painted property will give you better pictures for your listing which will increase the changes for the potential customer to choose your property.

4. Better Listing means Faster Selling or Rent out.

Especially when you rent out a property, the main cost is not the agent, but the number of weeks or months your property remains empty.
As mentioned above, a basic painting job can make the whole difference! Get a professional to assess the improvement that could be done, invest in it and enjoy higher rental or an increase selling value.

5. Last but not least, your front door should not be forgotten!

This is a important tip that we got from our real estate partners, they realised that the first words exchanged when a couple comes to visit a property, is usually about the front door, and if the comments are positive, people tend to be more positive during the visit.Don’t neglect your front door.

How to Choose the Right Power Extension Court for Your Device

Thanks to power extension courts, the days of choosing between which two electronics you want to occupy outlets are gone. With a power extension you’re able to have multiple electronics plugged in. Something to remember is not all strips are created equal.  Surge protectors are power strips that keep excess electrical energy from surging. A power strip is an extension box that you can plug into multiple plugs.
Power Strip or a Surge Protector?
A power extension and a surge protector both offer extra outlets, but a surge protector can help protect your electronics from harmful surges and/or power spikes. For some electronics or items that are inexpensive, it may be better to buy a basic power strip. A surge protector is better suited to computers, laptops, televisions, and stereos – high end items that contain important information or perform important functions.
Choose the Right Power Extension
Not all power extension are created equal. It is important to make sure you choose the right power strip extension for the items in your home. When shopping look for these items:
Look at the electric rating – a strip’s rating will tell you how much electricity it can absorb before it fails. This is important depending on the type of items you want to get the power strip for.
Does it have unique features you’re looking for? – Some power strips feature automatic moisture shut off, ability to be wall mounted, USB ports, and energy efficiency.
Make sure it has the number of ports you need.
Be careful to get the correct protector for the items you want to plug in. – Small kitchen or household appliances or large electronics such as computers or laptops will need different protection.
Does it have a warranty in case of failure? – The worst thing is buying a power extension only to discover when you get home that it was the wrong one for the job. Choosing the wrong strip could result in your electronics getting damaged. Choosing a surge protector that comes with a warranty gives you more security.
Buying the correct power strip or surge protector for your home seems easy, but it can backfire. Make sure before you plug in your electronics you have the correct strip for your items. Keep your electronics protected from power spikes. Do some research on the best power extension for you and your family’s needs.

DB Box Issues

Let us start by reminding you that a faulty Switchboard can be extremely dangerous. If there is a burning smell at your Switchboard, please phone us urgently! Other faults may be less urgent; however, they can be very frustrating when they disrupt power to parts of your home or building.
Electrical Switchboards are one of the most vital components of electrical power circuits in both residential homes and commercial buildings. They are really the heart of the electrical circuit, distributing power through the home or building. In many apartment blocks and commercial buildings, each floor or unit title will likely have a switchboard.
Wiring to, from and within the Switchboard
Power often runs through electrical wiring from the street to a main board of the building, then to the inside Switchboard in each apartment. In some other properties power runs directly from the street to a single Circuit-board / Switchboard. Within the Switchboard, power is split into a number of different electrical circuits; each circuit has its own circuit breaker or fuse. Electrical wiring then distributes electrical power throughout the property. Problems at the Switchboard can often be related to faulty wiring either at the point of contact with other fittings or the actual wire itself. We can test the power supply to isolate the issue and where possible we will repair the issue.
Circuit Breakers within the Switchboard
Switchboards normally contain many circuit breakers. Circuit breakers are a safety fitting within each particular individual electrical circuit that runs power through different parts of the home or building. Many switchboard repairs can turn out to be faults with circuit breakers.
Fuses within the Switchboard & time decayed Switchboard Units or Circuits
In many older homes and buildings, switchboards contain a number of fuses. Fuses were primarily used before circuit breakers. It is not uncommon for many of the electrical issues coming from the switchboard to be directly linked to older style fuse failures. Normally a straightforward and quick repair can be done to resolve such issues in the immediate term. However, overtime electrical components, fittings and wiring can decay. Switchboards are not immune to this issue. It is worth noting that at some stage it will become a necessary task to replace the switchboard, the individual components inside the Switchboard, and perhaps re-wire the property.
Our Kuala Lumpur wide team of registered master electricians have experience resolving Switchboard faults and providing electrical repair services. We have also completed a number of Switchboard upgrades when the unit or circuit is beyond repair and a replacement switchboard needs to be installed.

Ceiling Fans Can Make You “Cool” Again

Many modern day home layouts don’t allow for much cross ventilation depending on the window alignment.  With a ceiling fan installed it is easy to ensure air is circulating.  A ceiling fan can even reduce your energy consumption by up to 30 percent.
Bugs Hate the Wind
A chemical free deterrent to bugs and mosquitoes can be as simple as turning on your ceiling fan.  It is a known fact that the wind reduces the amount of air born insects around you.   Also the wind dilutes and blows away the carbon dioxide you exhale.  Similar to why airplanes have trouble landing in high wind so do bugs?  They often seek protection during high winds or try to avoid them all together.
Safe Ceiling Fan Use
A ceiling fan should only be properly installed by a trained electrician.  We often find ceiling fans installed on plastic boxes or boxes with the wrong size screws.  Can you imagine a ceiling fan rotating at high speeds and weighting 30 to 50 pounds falling from your ceiling?  We have seen ceiling fans that have even fell on a child’s bed due to improper installation.  Thank goodness no one was hurt in that case!
Ceiling Fan Sized Properly
A under sized ceiling fan won’t be as effect as a properly sized ceiling fan.  Also, ceiling fans should be installed at a minimum of 7 off the floor, 20-30 inches from walls and 10-18 inches from ceiling to increase their effectiveness.  Also consider features of the ceiling fan such as the light quality, remote option, and number of speeds.  As the old saying goes ” you get what you pay for” this is also true when it comes to ceiling fans.  Cheap fans are usually more wobbly, nosier, and don’t last as long.  Spend what you can afford but try not to buy the cheapest fan possible.  Search for name brands such as Casablanca, Emerson, Minka and other high quality fans.  Unless your truly a handy individual and know the electrical code when it comes to proper ceiling fan installation you should have a professional install your ceiling fan.  Contact us today to have one of our trained, trusted, and background checked electricians install your fan and put the cool back in that room!
*To be eligible for ceiling fan giveaway you must live within 20 miles of the 50325 zip code.  For installation you must currently have a ceiling fan or light fixture installed and location installation of choice.  Box supporting existing light fixture or ceiling fan must be rated for a ceiling fan.
